I’m a Porn Star: Gay4Pay
Curiously there is a disproportionate percentage of men working in gay porn who identify as straight. Why would a straight man do gay porn? What motivates him to try this or make a career of it? Why is there such keen interest and debate into the sexuality and personal lives of these men?
And what does it say about us, the viewer that so much of gay porn is dominated by images of straight men?
Are there shades of internalized homophobia emerging? Why might we be turned off if the man on screen looks, sounds, or behaves in a way that is identifiably queer?
To try and answer some of these questions we interviewed men from some of the most popular and prolific studios which fetishize straight men. We spoke with gay stars about their experiences working with straight guys. And we hit the streets to test the curiosity, and opinions of the public.
REVIEWS
The world of gay for pay porn is explored in depth in this 1 hour documentary. The audience is able to get a sense of why a "heterosexual" male would choose to perform homosexual sex acts with other men on camera for cash.
Another winner from Charlie David. An insightful look at the topic many have questions, faculty assumptions and great curiosity. I loved hearing real life stories as to why these men would do this work. I also for me highlights the need to education folks on the different in behavior we engage in and the identities we hold. They may or may not be the same. Well done, professional documentary that sheds light on an interesting and timely topic. Enjoyed it very much. I did receive an ARC and leave this honest review.
I really enjoyed this documentary. It gave me a completely different viewpoint than the one I had going into watching this. To me the phrase “Gay for Pay” always had a negative connotation to it, and it made me cringy towards those models. Having watched this documentary, it opened my eyes to the whys behind it, as well as a much more open minded viewpoint on my end. I realized these men weren’t choosing a career in gay porn for the wrong reasons, but their own reasons. I also realized they shouldn’t have to justify why they chose this career, just as I shouldn’t have to justify why as a woman I choose to watch gay porn over hetero porn. I highly recommend this video if you have preconceived notions about straight men choosing careers in gay porn.
