Marco De Luca takes us behind the scenes of his role as Claude in the web series "Settle Down." What's your favorite scene from "Settle Down" and why?
My favorite scene would have to be the moment Claude sends a very sweet message after basically ignoring Ben the whole date. This behavior is actually a very realistic thing in the dating scene, and I think everyone will relate to it in some way. We've all experienced those mixed signals and confusing moments where someone seems disinterested only to follow up with something heartfelt. It’s a small but powerful moment that captures the complexity and unpredictability of modern dating.
How would you describe "Settle Down" to a friend in one sentence?
"Settle Down" is a very queer, very funny series about finding love and how hard it is—relatable, sweet, genuine, and real.
What do you enjoy doing when you're not acting?
If you know me, you know that I am a SPIN instructor in the city! Spin truly is life, and I spend all my time on the bike. Teaching spin classes is not just a job; it's a passion. The energy, the music, and the community aspect of spin are incredibly fulfilling. It keeps me physically fit and mentally balanced, and it’s a great way to motivate and connect with people.
Do you have any rituals or habits to get into character before a scene?
It definitely depends on the project, but a huge part of character building for me is the costume. Once I feel like I look like my character and feel comfortable in their clothes, it feels right. The transformation through wardrobe helps me embody the character's personality and attitude. For Claude, wearing his outfits helped me tap into his laid-back, slightly aloof nature. It’s amazing how a piece of clothing can change your posture, your walk, and your entire demeanor.
Do you see any of yourself in the character you play on the show?
Although I am definitely more aware than Claude is, I probably am on my phone just as much as he is, if not more. I think Claude's constant connectivity and distraction by his phone is something many of us can relate to in this digital age. It’s a reflection of how technology can interfere with personal interactions and relationships, something I’m definitely mindful of in my own life.
