In this insightful interview, Josette Jorge shares her experiences playing Sandra in the web series "Settle Down." She talks about her favourite scenes, her mentoring activities outside of acting, and the rituals that help her get into character. Josette also reflects on how she relates to Sandra's struggles with communication and offers ways for fans to connect with her online.
What's your favourite scene from the "Settle Down" scripts, and why?
My favourite scene is one that I'm not in...but I love being a fly on the wall for it! It's in episode 2 during Ben's birthday dinner. There is tension coming from all sides between Mason, Jarod, Ben, and Angelo. Right before he opens the door, Mason tells Jarod, "For the next three hours, let's just be happy. Okay?" and you know that's a disaster waiting to happen.
How would you describe "Settle Down" to a friend in one sentence?
"Settle Down" is the perfect mix of humour, heart, and speaks to anyone who has ever searched for love.
What do you enjoy doing when you're not acting?
I mentor kids who either want to be actors themselves or want to use acting tools to help with public speaking skills at Ivy Speech Arts Academy. I actually ran into one of my students, Alina, while filming a scene for "Settle Down!" She randomly stopped to watch because she saw a film set, and we were both blown away when we saw each other! It was a really special moment for both of us.
Do you have any rituals or habits to get into character before a scene?
Our intimacy coordinator, Christina Fox, taught us a great ritual that I will be taking with me every time I do an intimate scene. It's tapping in and out by giving your scene partner eye contact and a high-five. It really grounded me before we shot our scenes.
Do you see any of yourself in the character you play on the show?
My character Sandra is definitely more A-type than I am, but I can relate to her struggles with communication. Talking about our feelings wasn't common practice in my household growing up, so I am constantly working on speaking up and being braver with asking for what I want.
Where can fans find you online if they want to connect?
